Friends, family of men who drowned in Harrison Lake warn of dangers

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s been two months since two young men from Vancouver drowned in Harrison Lake. Their friends and family are now hoping to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Back in June, Gary Duong and Daniel Reid’s dinghy drifted too far from shore. They tried to swim, but never made it back. In an emotional video posted online, their loved ones are warning you conditions at Harrison Lake can change very quickly.

“It’s advertised as a place that is safe. It’s not,” says one man in the video.

“When we took that boat out, everything was fine for maybe half an hour. And then within seconds, it was just a nightmare,” says another.

Mounties warn the lake is a lot bigger than it looks and the winds can catch you off-guard.

“It was one of the hottest days of the year. No one would have guessed at how cold the water would be,” says a tearful friend in the video.
