Trudeau’s west coast support grows post-debate: poll

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People in this province feel Justin Trudeau won the debate — but still isn’t ready to be Prime Minister according to new polling numbers for the West Coast after Thursday’s Maclean’s Leaders Debate.

Twenty-six per cent of British Columbians think Trudeau won the night, closely followed by Tom Mulcair and Elizabeth May with Stephen Harper a distant fourth.

But Mainstreet Research President Quito Maggi says those numbers don’t translate into leadership.

“The majority still believes that Tom Mulcair and the NDP are going to win the election with about 37 per cent, so the reflection of who they thought won the debate hasn’t transferred yet to people’s voting intentions or who they believe is going to win this coming election.”

He says we saw a more real representation of Trudeau. “The tone that he used during the debate [was] much more confident, much more authoritative, a more authentic Justin we haven’t necessarily seen in a while and I think to just let him be him and that’s what came through, and I think people appreciated that fact.”

He does think however, voter’s intention will move more in the next few days as pundits and experts continue to weigh in on the debate performances.

“What kind of impact the debate has going forward remains to be seen. BC is shaping up to be a battleground but election day is still weeks and weeks away”, finished Maggi.
