Rain is expected on the coast but dry conditions in the south could spark new fires

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The cooler, wetter weather in recent days has been a welcome reprieve for BC firefighters but forecasted lightning is expected to ramp up fire activity.

Ryan Turcot of the BC Wildfire Service says rain is expected on the coast but warm, dry conditions in the south could spark new fires.

There are 123 fires currently burning in the province, of which nearly three-quarters were caused by lightning.

A grass fire shut down Highway 3 in both directions about eight kilometres west of Keremeos for several hours yesterday.
