Swim lesson registration delayed by credit card glitch

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It was a frustrating morning for thousands of parents trying to sign their kids up for swimming lessons at public pools in Vancouver.

A new computer system was brought in to make the whole process easier, but an unforeseen glitch had many parents annoyed.

Registration was supposed to begin at 9 a.m. Monday, but parents found they couldn’t complete their transactions.

That glitch wasn’t with the Park Board’s new system. It was with an external company that processes the credit card payments, explains Board General Manager Malcolm Bromley.

“We had to stop and we asked the credit card people to fix the problem. They did, and we reopened at noon.”

Many people showed their frustration on social media, but Bromley says he’s confident this won’t happen again, saying registration for other programs has gone smoothly.

“We’ve talked to the company and they’ve reassured us they have the system stabilized.”
