TransLink stops bus service over the Lions Gate Bridge

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You’re out of luck if you are trying to take transit to and from North Vancouver. TransLink has temporarily stopped bus service over the Lions Gate Bridge.
Service was stopped Wednesday afternoon and people were told to take the SeaBus instead. Sailings on both sides of Burrard Inlet were completely full and line-ups stretched out of the terminals.
Thursday morning, TransLink noted that their extra SeaBus vessel was out for maintenance.
Blue Bus service to and from West Vancouver is not affected.
Traffic has been terrible on the North Shore, thanks to drivers slowing to get over a bump on the Lions Gate.
The mayor of North Vancouver is frustrated with the stoppage of bus service over the bridge.
“I hope that they run SeaBus every ten minutes, that’s the least that they can do,” says Darrell Mussato, as a solution to the delays experienced by transit users.
He thinks there should be more SeaBus trips during peak times like there were during the Olympics and especially in these unforeseen certain situations.
“It’s a great opportunity when traffic has a tie up on the bridges for people to go to public transit and to test it out, they’re testing it out and it’s failing.”
He’s upset TransLink didn’t tell anyone about the last minute bus cancellations and feels the organization along with the province both need to step up their game and invest in better transit.
The Ministry of Transportation is promising a fix will be in place by Friday.
