VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We are on the leading edge when it comes to politics.
There are more women in the province running for a seat in the federal election compared to elsewhere around Canada.
About 37 per cent of candidates in BC amounting to a total of 56 are women.
The number is more like 30 per cent in other provinces.
The lobby group Equal Voice believes the reason behind the strong showing could be all the strong role models we’ve seen in the past like Grace McCarthy and former Prime Minister Kim Campbell.
There are actually two ridings in BC where four candidates are women, including Vancouver Centre which is currently held by Hedy Fry with the Liberals.
