VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Attendance was way down at the Fair at the PNE over the weekend, due to the windstorm.
But there was no major damage.
“It was just park clean-up,” says Laura Ballance with the PNE. “We had some tents on some of our games lines and some of the lighter-weight tents around the fairgrounds had come out or gone over. So, those were fixed.”
“We called in a crew overnight on Saturday night so that aesthetically, we were fairly well-prepared for Sunday morning opening,” she adds.
She says the rides are designed to sustain winds. “What we do is when the winds reach a certain speed, we won’t run [the rides] in the wind. From that point of view, we were fine.”
The PNE was closed for a few hours on Saturday due to the storm.
It has a scheduled closure today and will reopen tomorrow morning.
