Mosaic has staff ready to provide one-on-one support to Syrian refugees who come to Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A local settlement and employment agency for newcomers says it’s ready and prepared to support up to a 1,000 Syrian refugees if they arrive in Metro Vancouver. The non-profit agency believes we need to act immediately to exemplify the compassion of Canadians on the world stage.

Sherman Chan with Mosaic says they have staff ready to provide one-on-one support to those who come here. “For example they made really need to look for housing so we can help them to find it. If they have children and they need childcare or if they need interpretation or translation then we can provide those support service to them.”

Chan notes if government or private sponsors bring the refugees here, Mosaic can do all the groundwork. He says historically, we’ve shown our compassion with the Vietnamese Boat People in the late 70’s, and more recently with Kosovar refugees.

An estimated 2,400 Syrians have been resettled in Canada during the last two years, part of an overall commitment to accept 11,300 people.
