Amber Alert for two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, father found dead

UPDATE: The remains of two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette have been found. The Amber Alert has been cancelled.

BLAIRMORE, ALBERTA – A young girl has been abducted, prompting RCMP to issue an Amber Alert in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and Montana.

Police say Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette was taken around 3:30 a.m. MST Thursday from the town of Blairmore, Alberta. Her father, 27-year-old Terry Blanchette, was found dead inside the home and police believe he was killed.

Alberta RCMP say they weren’t alerted until 11:30 a.m., three hours before the alert was issued.

Superintendent Tony Hamori says that’s proper procedure. “The investigators were confirming that information and we wanted to ensure that we get accurate information out to the public so we protect the integrity of the Amber Alert process.”

Hailey is described as 2’1″ and 40 lbs with light brown straight hair with bangs and brown eyes.

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer model white van with a aerial buggy whip on the back.

Mounties say they don’t know who took the child.

Blairmore is about 220 kilometres southwest of Calgary and close to the BC border.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

People in the community anxiously waiting for news about Hailey

Corette Harrington is a family friend, who says her three daughters and Hailey are like siblings.

“I just want her to come home and come over to my house and scrunch Goldfish all over my floor, just because. I swear she used to do it to irritate me. I would give anything to be sweeping up the Goldfish right now.”

She hopes the media will focus more on finding Hailey than on Blanchette’s death.

“It’s important that the media focus on Hailey right now and the fact that she’s still not found, and then I think the rest of the story can be found once we find her,” she says.

Blanchette was a cook at a local restaurant.

His boss, Tammy Tracey says he was a good worker, who adored his daughter. “He would never miss a day of work. He had to support a daughter, I mean, he was a good kid.”

“He did anything for his daughter, he loved her dearly. He was a good dad, you know, he lived for her,” she adds.
