VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Rapid expansion of car-sharing services continues as its largest player tries something new. car2go has added four-door vehicles to its lineup of tiny Smart cars in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.
Each city now has 25 Mercedes-Benz B-Class four-door hatchbacks.
That’s the same type of vehicle offered locally by the BCAA’s Evo service, which uses four-door Toyota Prius C.
car2go’s Justin MacDonald says it’s not a response to Evo but rather its members’ requests.
“Since you know we launched here five years ago, [we asked] what kind of improvements do you want? What do you need? And they consistently said they wanted a roomier car so this is why we’ve launched the pilot in Canada.”
He says car2go recently doubled its local fleet of smart cars to 1,250.
Modo, the car-sharing co-op in Vancouver, offers a variety of vehicles from subcompacts to trucks.
