Can the Canucks and Lions play at the same time after the viaducts come down?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With the Canucks and Lions playing at the same time tonight, it’s sure to very busy along Georgia and Dunsmuir. Fans may be wondering if the teams will still be able to host games on the same night if the viaducts are torn down.

City Councillor Geoff Meggs isn’t concerned about the combined crowds causing traffic chaos.

“Not only can the Canucks and the Lions play at the same time, we could see all kinds of new activity on a new plaza that has been long planned at the foot of Georgia street.” he explains. “What we have been told is that is works actually better in many respects without the viaducts and the new replacement road because of the connection to the north-south as well as east-west.”

Meggs says if anything, the new plan without the viaducts, would be an improvement. “Detailed studies have been done with BC Place and Rogers Arena to make sure they can load and unload and that there operations would be completely unimpaired, so if anything it will be more busy down there for pedestrians and others, and cars will have lots of access and everything should work smoothly.”

It’s not often the Lions and Canucks host games on the same night, at the same time. This weekend is the only example of that, this year.
