VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A local charitable group that blankets the region during cold weather, is about to celebrate 10 years in business.
Blanket BC started out as a one man operation but a decade later, it’s grown much larger.
Founder Gregory Ould says they have serviced the communities all throughout the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and facilitated big blanket drives throughout BC. “Donations can be challenging obviously during the summer months because as soon as the cold hits people want to donate. They just realize ‘oh my gosh I would not want to be sleeping outside.’ It’s easier to get donations throughout the winter.”
He notes the group also needs volunteers or blanketeers to distribute the donations. “Over 200 thousand blankets have been collected and distributed to shelter programs and families in need. Whether it is emergency services, homelessness, and people living in poverty.”
They will even pick up your donated blankets right at your front door.
The anniversary celebration is taking place at the Columbia Theatre in New West on Friday night.
