What can we expect from federal candidates on the eve of the election?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Canada’s longest federal election campaign in more than a century is in its final day.

Just one more sleep until you vote, so what will you see from the major party leaders as time runs out on their campaign?

You won’t be hearing any ads on the radio or watching them on TV — it’s not allowed.

Dorothy Sitek with Elections Canada says the party leaders can’t campaign around any polling stations either. “Campaigning is allowed on Election Day, so, you might still hear from campaigns at home — whether in person or on the telephone, all that is permissible.”

The parties aren’t allowed to have any ads or buses or banners and logos at the polling stations. “It’s really about respecting the elector’s right to exercise their democratic right to vote in peace.”

Unlike a provincial election, the polls close an hour earlier tomorrow at 7pm, and by law, employers are required to give you three hours of consecutive time off to vote.
