Lights of Hope display goes up in front of St. Paul’s hospital

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Light and stars and donations! A little bit of a shift from Halloween as the Lights of Hope go up out front of St. Paul’s hospital this weekend.

Over a hundred volunteers came from Oregon, Washington State and from the community in Vancouver to work, hauling strings of lights and stars high into the sky for the display that blankets St. Paul’s Hospital.

Adam Van Steinberg is an electrician from the Lower Mainland, and this is his 13th year volunteering. “We have pretty much met everybody over several years and a lot of the people you only see once or twice a year. You get to see those people, work with those people, joke with those people and you get to raise money while you do it.”

His enthusiasm caught on and this year his son and nephew tagged along as part of the crew.

Former health care worker, KB Brown loves giving inspiration to hospital patients during the holidays. “I was crying when I saw the pictures. I mean ‘oh my gosh.’ You are so proud of what you did and how you can give back to the community, that is the number one reward. We don’t think about what kind of glory we are going to get for this, you know are we going to be known for this, probably not but it’s not about us.

The display is in its 18th year, and hopes to raise $3 million for the hospital.
