VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A fifth person has been victimized by a purse snatcher in Chinatown.

VPD Sergeant Randy Fincham says police believe the same suspect is responsible and is specifically going after older Chinese women. “All five of these women were Chinese ladies ranging from their 50’s. One woman was in her nineties.”

“The suspect description in the first four robberies is very similar. We are looking for a white man in his 20’s, about six feet tall [with a] fairly slim build. He was wearing blue jeans in a number of the robberies and a dark jacket. The description in the fifth robbery, the man appeared to be a little bit older,” he explains.

“A number of these, it appears the women had walked through possibly a dark alley before they were approached by this man. So stay in well-lit areas or if you have the ability, go out with a friend.”

Three victims have been hurt in the sometimes violent robberies. The first happened last Wednesday and the latest yesterday, just minutes after police issued a public warning.
