Sinkhole on ramp from eastbound Lougheed to the Mary Hill

By

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – You can forget using the Mary Hill Bypass if you’re on eastbound Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam.

The onramp is closed because of a sinkhole. It appears a leaky water main under the pavement is to blame.

Mani Deo is the manager of engineering operations. He says a watermain broke around 9 p.m. yesterday,n leading to the hole.

“We’re trying to determine if it’s feasible for us to work in the area and get the water main fix happening — but at the same time, perhaps build a temporary ramp off of Lougheed so that traffic can get back onto the ramp and eventually make its way to the Mary Hill Bypass.”

Deo is hoping a temporary fix will be in place in the next two or three days at the most. He says crews will likely be starting their work either this afternoon or early tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can use the Coast Meridian overpass to get onto the Mary Hill from Lougheed eastbound.
