Haida Gwaii documentary set to hit the silver screen in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A documentary going over Haida Gwaii’s fight against the oil and gas industry is about to be screened in Vancouver.

Haida Gwaii is beautiful, so much so that National Geographic named it one of the Must See Places in the World.

Charles Wilkinson says this is not like a typical environmental movie.

“They tend to be fairly depressing. There aren’t that many happy ending stories. This one is not an ending of course, but it’s a very positive and uplifting story because it a story about people who have found a way to fight back.”

Wilkinson says the debut in front of the people of Haida Gwaii was important and successful.

“I was very nervous, but it was insane. There was a prolonged standing ovation, people were cheering, crying and laughing, for good reasons I hope. It was just an amazing event we loved it.”

HAIDA GWAII: ON THE EDGE OF THE WORLD debuts Friday at the Vancity theatre.
