VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – For the first time in history Vancouver is expected to have more than nine million visitors in a single year.
The record numbers are not just because of the slumping loonie.
Amber Sessions with Tourism Vancouver says there are a lot of reasons why the numbers are so high, like targeted advertising, new flights into YVR, and a number of high profile events.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup, when that was running we saw hotel occupancy for some nights exceeding 99 per cent, the World Congress of Dermatology, which is coming up, is going to bring a lot of people in, the International AIDS Society Conference.”
She thinks 2016 looks promising, too.
“We have a number of new flights that are already confirmed for 2016, which is really fantastic, we have got a London flight, a number of new American flights and a new flight from New Zealand.”
Sessions believes the World Rugby Sevens Series coming up could also bring the masses to the Lower Mainland.
She warns everything depends on the global economy.
