Vancouver’s mayor hopes a green shift can mean big money for our region

PARIS (NEWS 1130) – With international leaders meeting in Paris to discuss climate action, Vancouver’s mayor is making a push to bring more green investment our direction.

“The opportunities are massive in the green economy right now,” says Mayor Gregor Robertson, speaking with NEWS 1130 from Paris.

“The world is making that shift. It presents incredible opportunities for Vancouver to continue being a leader and attracting jobs and investment.”

The idea that governments have to make choices between the economy and the environment is becoming outdated, according to Robertson.

“There’s no way you can credibly say that any more,” he says. “Vancouver is a great example of a city where we’ve taken strong environment action fighting climate change and we have the strongest economy of any city in Canada, and that’s projected to continue for the next five years.”

Robertson is also hoping Vancouver can help other cities wanting to go green by providing expertise and advice, based on how things have gone here in recent years.
