Paris agreement could have a major environmental impact in BC

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – What is this province going to do to reduce or rein in our greenhouse gas emissions?

The Paris talks mean we have to re-look at how our own local communities approach climate change and emissions.

What it means and how the deal will affect decisions regarding things like pipelines and other project is yet to be seen, but Ben West with Forest Ethics is optimistic moving forward.

“We are going to be thinking about climate change when we make decisions that affect all of us and that could have implications for a lot of projects in the near future and really change the direction we’re headed.”

He says BC is in an interesting position, being a gateway to the pacific, and directly between all the fossil fuels in Alberta and the expanding markets in Asia. He adds it’s up to the government to decide how much will change when it comes to environmental decisions.
