BC Liberal Party executive director resigns after charges laid in Ontario

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Laura Miller has resigned as the BC Liberal Party’s executive director after being charged in connection with the deletion of documents related to a couple of cancelled gas plants in Ontario.

Miller was one of two aides to former premier Dalton McGuinty in 2013.

David Livingston, McGuinty’s former chief of staff; and Miller, the former deputy chief; are each charged with breach of trust, mischief in relation to data, and misuse of a computer system to commit the offense.

The charges stem from the deletion of thousands of government emails related to the Liberals’ decision to cancel two gas plants prior to the 2011 election, which the Auditor General found would cost rate payers up to $1.1 billion.

Both Livingston and Miller are set to make their first court appearances in Toronto in January. None of the charges have been proven in court.

In a statement released on social media, Miller says she intends to “vigorously defend against these charges.”
