Looking for New Year’s Eve plans? Operation Red Nose is looking for help

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Operation Red Nose is looking for volunteers to help out on December 31st to get people ringing in the new year home safely.

It’s a Safe Ride Home service that allows customers who don’t feel fit to drive themselves home call in and request a team of volunteers to do so for them.

With the big night only a few days away, Chris Wilson with the organization says they’re still looking for more help and that interested volunteers will have to get the process started soon.

“Every volunteer needs to fill out an application form as well as have a criminal records check done and that’s kind of why we’re in a bit of a sense of urgency right now leading up to New Year’s Eve. All police forces involved are very supportive and they’ll be able to get the criminal records checks done on pretty quick notice for us”, says Wilson, who adds that volunteering is also a fun experience and that volunteers generally have a great time. It’s a different thing to do and a great way to give back to the community.

The service is all donation-based, and all proceeds go toward different charities around the province.
