VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The folks at the Union Gospel Mission is looking to spread some holiday cheer on the last night of the year.

They’re sending out their Mobile Mission vehicle, which typically drives around the city twice a week, to look for people needing blankets, food, and shelter.

Jeremy Hunka with the UGM says it times out well that they can send the car out on New Year’s, adding they’re also trying to get the word out about their facilities.

“There are a lot of people in Vancouver who are in need but are either unable or unwilling to go into a shelter. But they still need help. So, we’ll reach out to them,” he tells us.

“This is an opportunity for us to reach out and say, ‘Hey, we can help with this.’ There are options for you. That’s one of the reasons why we send out the Mobile Mission on these holiday evenings,” he adds.

Hunka says reality starts to hit home for most people around this time of year, and it’s great way to show them someone’s there to help.
