Operation Red Nose wraps up another successful year

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It was another campaign as the folks behind Operation Red Nose wrap up another year.

More than 7,000 people here in BC and more than 81,000 nation-wide used the service.

Money raised goes towards a children’s charity and Chris Wilson with Operation Red Nose thinks people are actually realizing how tough BC’s new drinking and driving laws are.

The combination of the two, he explains, makes the program unique.

“It’s really, sort of jelled, and I think people now are really appreciating what the volunteers are doing and in a lot of cases they really want to support it and that’s why we’re seeing it be so successful.”

In November, Operation Red Nose gave its 2-millionth ride somewhere in Canada.

Wilson says year over year the program is gaining in popularity.

“I think people are really starting to be a little more responsible, I think they’re starting to make plans for getting home safely, they can have a family member not drink, they can call someone to pick them up, there are other designated driving services.”
