Massive King Tide not likely to cause damage in Metro Vancouver

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – With memories of powerful swells threatening homes and destroying sections of a seawall in Delta a little over a year ago, there is relief in low-lying areas of Metro Vancouver.

A massive King Tide arrived just after 8 a.m., and thankfully, a lot of people who spent a sleepless night worried about what the tide might bring, can rest easy today. High tides are expected to continue until January 15th though.

The water is calm, and Andrea, who lives near the beach in Boundary Bay was on shore, watching to see what would happen. “It wasn’t anything similar even to last year, where we had a big south-easterly and were getting a lot of wind and waves and more concerned. But everybody is super relieved.”

A King Tide destroyed part of a seawall in December of 2014, and since, burms have been built in front of homes and sandbags placed to help keep water out, but so far they haven’t been necessary.
