VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Vancouver city councillor says BC kids ageing out of foster care and ending up the city’s streets are part of a shift in the local homeless population.
“The age of the homeless is decreasing,” explains Councillor Kerry Jang.
He says not only are they getting younger, they also don’t want help.
“They typically go straight to the street. We are seeing them getting involved with street drugs, which is a particular problem here in Vancouver and overtime, become our next homeless population.”
Jang adds just seven years ago, the average homeless person was a man his late 40s, who may have been on the streets for at least a decade.
