Get ready for the next big freeway project! Open house tonight in North Vancouver

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The next big project along Highway 1 is set to start within a few months.

An upgrade for the Mountain Highway Interchange in North Vancouver is scheduled to begin this summer, kicking off a five-year, $150-million, multi-phase project for the Lower Lynn area just north of the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge.

The province’s design has been public for about a year, with the upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow and safety, but there are concerns regular back-ups won’t be fully dealt with as any new capacity fills up quickly.

The area becomes extremely congested, both on Highway 1 and for local drivers trying to get across the route without getting frustratingly funnelled in with freeway traffic.

North Vancouver District Council feels that unless the old highway bridge over Lynn Creek is replaced with a wider span, there will still be challenges for commuters trying to get to eastbound Highway 1.

The Ministry of Transportation is hosting an open house and public information meeting from 4-8 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn & Suites at 700 Old Lillooet Rd.

The information will also be posted online later this afternoon.
