VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man from south of the border is slated to take over the top spot at TransLink.
Kevin Desmond, a high-ranking executive at King County Metro in Seattle, is apparently going to get the job.
Some critics of the local transportation authority are already weighing in on the challenges Desmond faces.
Jordan Bateman with the BC branch of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation lead the fight against last summer’s plebiscite that would have increased funding, and says Desmond has a lot of work to do.
“Well you know there’s layers and layers of bureaucracy at TransLink and bluntly, he could get rid of an entire layer and not affect frontline services one bit except that bus drivers will be a heck of a lot happier because they don’t understand this bureaucracy either.
Bateman says the question is — is Desmond willing to take what he calls “entrenched interests.”
