You don’t make love with a knife and fork: Vikram Vij on Valentine’s Day

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We all have that image in our heads of the romantic couple gazing over a candlelit dinner at each other with music playing.

Local Chef and Restaurant Owner Vikram Vij feels the setting for your big meal is the perfect starting point, especially if you’re the one doing the cooking.

“The first thing is to make sure there is ambiance, which means candles, music, the chill out factor is very important. [Don’t] stress out over it.”

Vij says the key thing to pulling off a successful dinner is doing your homework, meaning not just slapping some food on a plate, but also making sure you get the best ingredients – even if it costs a bit more.

“When you eat, you use your hands and my analogy to that is you don’t make love with a knife and fork. So if you’re not going to make love with a knife and fork then you might as well use your hands to enjoy a delicious meal.”

As for what you should prepare…Vij says pick a meal that says something to you personally, or more importantly, to the person you are making it for.
