Dog owners in northern BC fear animals are being stolen for fighting rings

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Dogs are vanishing in northern BC, prompting fears they’re being recruited into brutal dog-fighting rings.

There is a growing call for the province and the RCMP to do something. Over 1,000 people have signed a petition calling on MLA Mike Bernier and the RCMP to take action.

People in the Fort St. John area, including the manager of the SPCA’s North Peace Branch, claim there has been a major increase in the number of dogs that have gone missing over the last year and a half.

Some dogs have been found dead. Others have been found mutilated, with injuries that apparently match with those an animal might get being involved in a fight.

While it hasn’t been proven that fighting rings are behind the dog-nappings, the petition states many people know why these animals are being taken, but the RCMP seem to have no concern for the safety of the pets.

People have reported seeing vehicles driving by properties slowly and dogs going missing around the same time.
