It will take 100 years before wages between sexes are equal: labour group

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Women’s rights may have come a long way over the last century. But as we mark International Women’s Day, one labour group is warning it will be a long time before women make as much money as men.
The Ontario Federation of Labour says it will be over 100 years before that happens, if progress continues at the same pace it is now in that province.
It claims women in that province make up about half the workforce but make over 30 per cent less than the average amount men make.
The group says there is a gap at every wage level, regardless of the job type, or a woman’s education or age.
Here at home, a motion is going before Vancouver City Council today, calling for gender parity on all city committees.
