Most Canadians think teachers should be legally required to get flu shots: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Could teachers be the next profession whose members face mandatory flu vaccinations?

A poll suggests we want our kids’ instructors to be legally required to be vaccinated.

A survey from Angus Reid finds seven in 10 of us think professionals who work with people who are especially susceptible to the flu should be legally required to get vaccinated every year.

About the same number feel family and ER doctors should also be required to get the shot.

Those who get the shot every year and older Canadians are more likely to back the idea.

While the thought may go over well with some, there is still a great deal of opposition to it.

Unions representing health care workers in BC have been fighting against mandatory vaccination for years, saying it infringes on the rights of workers, arguing there’s no hard evidence a flu shot is particularly effective at stopping the spread of the bug.
