Slightly more than half of Canadians support Trudeau budget: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Did you nod your head in approval as you heard the details of the federal budget this week?

A new survey breaks down what parts are getting support — and which weren’t so popular.

If these respondents were members of parliament, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s budget would have squeaked by with 51 per cent support.

“Our survey, which we conducted right after the budget was released and right into Wednesday, finds that for the most part, Canadians are at least willing to accept the budget,” says David Coletto with Abacus Data, which conducted this poll.

If change was the motivator for voters in October, they got that, with 81 per cent feeling this budget is definitely different, says Coletto.

“Most of those who voted Liberal, most of those who supported the New Democrats, and even a significant number of those who voted Conservative, think that the budget overall is pretty good,” says Coletto. “A majority say they would vote to pass it if they were an MP.”

The least popular move? Thirty-nine per cent of people oppose the decision to throw $675-million the way of the CBC.
