Locals line up to put down deposit on new Tesla

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – More than 100 dedicated Tesla fans braved a cool morning to line up in front of a Tesla dealership in Downtown Vancouver just to get a glimpse of the automaker’s newest model. Some lined up for more than 40 hours.

In a lawn chair and a sleeping bag, Jake Mullan says a lack of details on the car now won’t deter him from committing today. “If you have faith in the company, it doesn’t seem as risky, but I think to the average consumer who doesn’t really follow Tesla like a lot of us fans do… we can seem a little on the crazy side.”

Joseph Preece, who was the first in line, anticipates the new car to hold up to the standards of the company’s previous vehicles. “The ones he’s created so far are amazing, and I feel like the company can be trusted because it hasn’t given any reason not to, yet.”

Some in the line-up say they don’t buy in to competitors like the Chevy Bolt, because the company also makes gas-powered cars, while others say that they just have more faith in Tesla.

“I just don’t think they’re in the same league,” says Scott Thompson. “Having owned a [Tesla Model] S, I know the quality.”

Tesla Motors will unveil its Model 3 electric car tonight at its Los Angeles design studio.

The new car is expected to go into production by late next year, although some analysts predict delays will push the start of production into 2018.

Tesla is best known for making very expensive electric cars, but the Model 3 is much more affordable, with an expected starting price of about $35,000US .
