VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks are out of the playoffs, as are the rest of Canada’s NHL teams, so how are local sports merchandise shops faring with the lack of interest?
No surprise sales are next to non-existent when it comes to hockey gear but there is one Canadian team generating hat and jersey sales says John Svelka with Vancity Sports.
He can barely keep enough Blue Jays merchandise in stock to feed the demand, especially since the season opened last week. “We’re looking at no Canadian teams in the playoffs so sales in April and May are going to be a little bit stale so this definitely gives us a little bit of a boost.”
Stroman, Donaldson and Tulowitzki sales lead the way but not pending free agent outfielder Jose Bautista. “We have not sold a Bautista jersey as of yet. You don’t want to buy a jersey and then the player is gone in a year or less time.”
And as long as the team stays hot, so too should sales.
