Camping reservations up significantly in BC

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You should hurry up if you’re hoping to book a couple of nights at a BC campground this year, reservations are up significantly.

Nathalie Dechane with BC Parks says the window to making a reservation has been open since last month and people are taking full advantage of it. “Each and every year we’re astounded by the increase in demand in reservations. To date, we are about 18 per cent increase from previous year’s reservations, so it looks like we’re going to have a really camping season.”

She adds they’re not taking bookings into late July. “Long weekends are generally the first to go and then busy weekends during the summer are second popular, so, some of our parks I know are very difficult to even get a reservation in.”

Claire Newell with Travel Best Bets expected people are staying so close to home. “That number does not surprise me. People are looking to stay a little closer to home mainly because of the US dollar. A lot of people who may have thought about crossing the line are thinking twice about it.”

And like Dechane, she adds it’s best to get an early start on reservations wherever you plan to go.
