VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Lots of snow and a low dollar have helped Whistler Blackcomb record its busiest season to date.
Conditions are so good, Blackcomb has even extended its season by a week.
Sarah Morden with the mountain says the mountain is on track to surpass previous records.
“We have had our busiest year to date, so it has been fantastic,” she tells us. “Definitely, the low dollar value, the fantastic snow year that we had… It just kind of created a perfect storm for us. We had visitors from all over the world flocking to us because we had such a great season.”
Morden notes gorgeous weather makes for beautiful conditions.
“It’s warm — we see people riding bikes in their ski boots to the mountains and then going up their in tank tops and things. So, it’s definitely spring conditions, but it is a fantastic time to ride for sure.”
She adds businesses at the resort are doing well.
“There were powder days — sometimes we get five of them a season; this year, it was like one a week.”
Blackcomb will stay open to skiers and snowboarders until May 30th.
