If bus drivers and SeaBus operators strike, could SkyTrain workers walk off the job in solidarity?

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Now that we know there is an appetite for a strike among bus drivers and SeaBus operators, what are the chances of a full-blown transit halt in Metro Vancouver?

Millennium and Expo Line workers are represented by a different union.

President of their CUPE local, Bill Magri, says if there is a picket line put up around a SkyTrain station, his members would respect it. But if the bus and SeaBus operators drew that line, there would be some pretty fast action.

“I’m 100 per cent positive that TransLink would be at the Labour Relations Board, seeking an injunciton on that, because the SkyTrain system is a separate system.”

Bus and SeaBus operators, among others, have voted 98 per cent in favour of a strike mandate.

But it’s likely nothing will happen anytime soon. Negotiations are scheduled for next month.
