Half of Canada’s working population is unhappy

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s true… money can’t buy happiness.

A study for a global recruitment company finds half of Canada’s working population suffers from low morale and a lack of satisfaction and it seems to be because they chose paycheque over job “fit.”

Office culture? Work ethic? Team dynamics? Forget about it.

Most of the workers surveyed by Hays Canada say pay is the number one thing they look at when deciding on a new job and, as a result, 47 per cent of Canadian employees say they feel unhappy at work.

With job fit taking a backseat, the study suggests that the tendency to “disregard the importance of workplace culture causes counter-productive attitudes about work and widespread levels of unhappiness that often extend into people’s personal lives.”

If you’re looking for a little more workplace happiness, the survey finds banking, financial services and construction are the top sectors.

Retail workers tend to be Canada’s unhappiest workers.
