NDP accuses Trudeau of elbowing another MP; PM says it was an accident

OTTAWA – A New Democrat MP says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “manhandled” another member on the floor of the House of Commons just prior to a key vote.

Peter Julian says he has never seen such behaviour in his 12 years in the House. Other NDP members agreed with that  sentiment.

The incident had the Commons in an uproar as MPs shouted and pounded their desks, drowning out some of Julian’s words as a remarkable scene unfolded on the floor of the Commons.

Trudeau says he was just trying to help the Liberal party whip through a throng of MPs prior to the vote and insists he never intended to hurt anyone.

Tempers have been running high in the Commons all week as the government pushes through a motion to limit debate on its controversial assisted-dying legislation, Bill C-14.

Speaker Geoff Regan could barely make himself heard as he tried to read the text of the motion.
