Cloverdale Rodeo rides off into the dust for another year

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The long weekend presented many the chance to explore the Lower Mainland but all that’s left of the Cloverdale Rodeo is the dust.

Over 100,000 people attended this year’s event.

“Very successful event, very few issues, lots of happy cowboys,” says the president of the rodeo, Shannon Claypool. He believes a lot of people came out to escape the rigors of everyday life.

“Buy a cowboy hat and become a cowboy for a few days. Forget your iPhone, forget your Samsung, forget your tablet and just play cowboy.”

Claypool attributes the weather as a part of the reason for this years success.

“We had perfect weather. Not scorching hot where people are getting sunburnt and sunstroke. Couldn’t have asked for better weather. We saw a couple of sprinkles of rain just to keep the dust down over the weekend.”

He says there were a couple of reports of people protesting the Mutton’ Bustin’ event, but it hardly dampened the rodeo’s spirit.

“We can agree to disagree. We put on a great family event here. We had more than 85,000 people that agree with us.”
