Eight of Canada’s 10 most expensive homes on the market are here in BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a snapshot of the hottest housing market in the whole country. And unless you’re a multi-millionaire, you can only dream about making a down payment.

A newly compiled list paints a picture of the most expensive homes currently on the market in Canada, and you don’t have to go too far to see many of them.

“The 10 priciest homes for sale in Canada cost between $28.8 million and $44.9 million. And eight of them are actually located in British Columbia — which is something extraordinary, I think,” says Roxana Baiceanu with Point2 Homes which put the list, published by the National Observer, together.

Four of those homes — like the Shaughnessy complex topping the list — are in Vancouver. Two are in West Vancouver and there’s one each in Surrey and Victoria.

“At the top of the list, there is a complex of three houses in the tiny neighbourhood of Shaughnessy and that’s on sale for $44.9 million,” says Baiceanu.

“And at number five, there’s a $35-million mansion in West Point Grey.”

Calgary and Toronto are the only two out-of-province cities with a home on the list; they are listed at numbers 6 and 7, respectively.

The 10th-most expensive home in the country is a three-bedroom, three-bath Shaughnessy mansion currently listed at $28.8 million.

“We’re not very surprised to see the mansions being from Vancouver. We’re a little bit surprised to see that many on the list. We’re kind of surprised not to see Toronto having more representatives in the top,” says Baiceanu.

The number 11 (in Richmond) and 12 (in West Vancouver) spots on the list also go to BC homes.
