VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A protest at Kitsilano beach is calling out Vancouver’s mayor for several expensive infrastructure projects.
Co-organizer Fiona Brodie says they are concerned about a lack of community consultation on projects like expanding sidewalks on Point Grey Road and changes to the Burrard Street Bridge. “We think those are wasteful and we furthermore are really concerned about the lack of consultation that is going on in this city. It is being repeated over and over again and when our voices are registered, they are ignored.”
“This is what happened before the last election and Gregor Robertson conspicuously promised to change and to listen to neighbourhoods and to listen to people and he has not. He has doubled down in the opposite direction, and everybody is feeling it.”
She adds even when communities speak up about these kinds of projects Gregor Robertson and his party push ahead anyways.
