‘Movement’ between Canada Post and union as lockout deadline looms

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are back at the bargaining table.

Labour Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk issued a statement Sunday saying she’s pleased to see there’s been “movement at the bargaining table.” Talks have been deadlocked on the issues of employee pension plans and wage parity.

Canada Post served a lockout notice last week and will be in a legal position to lock out the 50,000 unionized workers starting Monday at 12:01am Eastern Time.

The Crown corporation has complained repeatedly about the uncertainty to customers caused by the possibility of a strike by its workforce.

However, Canada Post did not immediately provide any clarity Sunday about whether the post office will act on its lockout threat.
