Demoviction protest marches through Burnaby

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Demoviction protestors in Burnaby have taken their fight to the street to try to get your attention about affordable homes being bulldozed in favour of new condos.

It was called the Imperial March and we’re not talking about the epic song from in Star Wars, but rather a small parade in the Metrotown area outside an empty apartment building.

“What we’re fighting for isn’t over. We are going to continue until something is done to help the situation,” says one protester.

The resistance, in this case, included people like Tanya Dreary and her son who was one of the several people arrested this past week for continuing to occupy the building.

“I’m surprised (with the turnout). I was here last weekend in support and this is much better. I was just happy that when they were forced out by police that it was a peaceful exit.”

The group is calling on Burnaby Council to help replace homes for people kicked out by development.
