VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As a part of Pride celebrations, the Black Lives Matter movement will lead the Dyke March today in Vancouver.
BLM is raising questions for the pride movement and that is a good thing according to the Director of the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies Dr. Kristopher Wells. “Have a conversation about how we pay attention to and understand issues of race, culture, religion and class within our own community. Are we as inclusive as we can be? Are we creating safe spaces?”
Wells says the entire movement is at times represented only by gay white man which he says poses a problem. “Canada is a multi-cultural country and the interesting thing about the LGBT community is it exists in all minority communities across all races, all cultures, all religion.”
He says the community might have to do things differently so everyone can feel included.
