Central California homes threatened by two major wildfires

CALIFORNIA (NEWS 1130) – Crews are still battling a massive wildfire near Big Sur that’s grown to 100-square-kilometres.

Public information officer, Bennet Milloy says it grew overnight.”A little over 600 acres so we are looking at a total of 40,618 acres, with 18 per cent containment.”

The fire has destroyed at least 57 homes and is threatening hundreds more.

Fire information officer Lynnette Round says extreme heat is making it a challenge to contain. “It has been dry, hot and with the five years of drought that we have been under, it is just making it very difficult for these firefighters.”

Meanwhile, a much newer fire in Fresno County has quickly spread, more than doubling in size to nearly five-square-kilometres.
