PITT MEADOWS (NEWS 1130) – Someone destroyed a BC Wildfire Service communication tower and firefighters want to know who.
The tower on Thompson Mountain in the south east part of the province was broken into over the long weekend and the equipment inside was damaged beyond repair.
Karlie Shaughnessy with the service says being without the tower puts firefighters in danger.
“Firefighters are required to do check-ins every our or every two hours depending on their situation to make sure they are safe and all their crews are accounted for. As well, the radio towers are also used by aircraft,” says Shaughnessy.
It will cost between $80,000 and $100,000 dollars to replace the equipment.
