Surrey man feels he’s getting the run around from GM

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – You probably love your car. You depend on it every day, but what happens when something goes wrong and you feel you’re getting the run around from the dealership?

A man in Surrey doesn’t have to imagine what that’s like. Rick Zeller says he has been going through just that for months and he’s feeling frustrated.

Zeller has been trying to get the transmission on his wife’s 2005 GM Grand Prix fixed since April, and it’s the second time it’s needed replacement.

He says the last time mechanics at Preston GM in Langley found metal fragments. “And I talked to two mechanics there and they both said that GM should replace this for free because this is an issue, it’s the second one that’s been dropped in and doing the same thing.”

But General Motors told him they wouldn’t do that.

“They said, ‘OK, we’ll look into it,’ and within a couple of days she came back and said, ‘No, because it’s off warranty.'”

“I went back to the Service Manager, we sat down, we talked and basically he agreed that GM should replace it, but it’s not for him to say.”

Service Manager at Preston GM Doug Glen says there’s nothing more he can do right now. “I approached General Motors on their behalf looking for some goodwill, to see if they would help them out with the repair and not pay for it. And they refused, said it was too far beyond the parts warranty and that was the end of it.” He adds he will try and speak to GM again to see if they can reconsider.

Meantime, Zeller feels he’s at the end of his rope and adds everyone seems to know it’s a problem but GM refuses to do anything about it.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to General Motors for a comment, but we’ve yet to hear back.
