Whitecaps conclude road trip with a battle in Colorado

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (NEWS 1130) – While it’s not Texas, the Vancouver Whitecaps end an MLS road swing in Colorado on Saturday night against the Rapids. (6pm)

The Whitecaps still hold on to the final playoff spot in the West, while the Rapids are eight points clear in 2nd. Vancouver has posted a 3-7-1 record away from BC Place this season.

The MLS roadtrip over the last few weeks coincided with CONCACAF play this past week as well. The big boss in Vancouver shared his own projections, meanwhile.

“I had said prior to this four game road trip – If we could come back in a playoff spot with five home games remaining, and five away, then we give ourselves a good chance of making the playoffs.” Whitecaps President Bob Lenarduzzi told NEWS 1130 Sports earlier this week.

Finish at the offensive end of the park has been an issue for the Whitecaps on the road as of late, but the newly acquired Giles Barnes will be available for Carl Robinson in Colorado tonight. Getting back to Lenarduzzi, he’s excited to see what the former Houston Dynamo can do with the club.

“The fact that he’s come from within the league means he’ll be fit. He’s been playing regularly with Houston.” Lendarduzzi said.

“In terms of where he plays, he can play anywhere along the front. Ideally he can bring some goals and some leadership to the club.” he added.

The Whitecaps have not scored in three road MLS matches, and they’ll need something if they’re to hang in the thin air against the Rapids.

Vancouver will finally return to BC Place on Friday night to face the San Jose Earthquakes.
